National Mentality in Artistic and Publicistic Discourse in the Works of Sherkhan Murtaza

To understand a nation's culture, ethnic identity, behavior, and worldview, it is crucial to define its inherent national mentality. This research aims to determine the characteristics of national mentality based on artistic and publicistic discourse. To achieve this, the study examines the artistic and publicistic discourse in the works of writer Sherkhan Murtaza, analyzing the distinctive features of national mentality, its linguistic characteristics, and the author’s unique creative approach in portraying it. Various methods were employed, including the analysis, selection, comparison, interpretation, and application of lexical-semantic and contextual analysis techniques to examine specific passages from the texts. The meanings of linguistic units that reflect national mentality were explained in each analyzed excerpt.
The study of texts that depict national mentality provided new insights into national traditions, worldviews, and cultural specificities. The necessity of identifying how national mentality evolves over time in response to historical events, as well as social, ideological, and public influences, underscores the thematic significance and relevance of this research.
Additionally, the research explores how national mentality is represented in artistic and publicistic discourse, focusing on the author's use of language. It is demonstrated that the expression of national mentality is embedded in the semantic essence of a text, phrase, or even a single word, and its distinction from national psychology is clarified. Previous theoretical and practical studies on this subject were reviewed, and a lexical analysis of the text was conducted in the analysis and results section. Defining national mentality within the scope of artistic and publicistic discourse further highlights the scientific and practical significance of the study.
By examining how national mentality manifests in different contexts, the research also analyzes the interrelation of customs and beliefs rooted in national consciousness. The communicative function of artistic and publicistic discourse was considered, particularly the lingua-cognitive and mental connection between speaker and listener. How national mentality is conveyed in texts was analyzed from the perspectives of linguistic features and the author’s stylistic choices. The study establishes that the national mentality is most explicitly expressed in Murtaza’s publicistic works, where the linguistic and conceptual representations of national cognition are explored within individual passages.
In conclusion, the research defines the distinctive ways in which national mentality is conveyed in artistic and publicistic discourse based on Sherkhan Murtaza’s works. The similarities and differences between the two discourse types were analyzed, contributing to a deeper understanding of how national identity is reflected in language.
