Abstract

Toponyms, or place names, are essential elements of the linguistic system and serve as carriers of cultural and historical information. They reflect unique geographical features, historical events and cultural identities of regions. In the context of globalisation, the linguistic aspects of toponyms become particularly important as they influence and are influenced by other languages and cultures.
This article explores the linguistic features of Kazakh and English toponyms in a global context. English place names have become widespread in the world due to historical factors such as colonisation, trade and the international status of the English language. In contrast, Kazakh toponyms are gaining international recognition through Kazakhstan's geopolitical importance, economic development and cultural exchange.
The study aims to analyse the linguistic characteristics of Kazakh and English toponyms and their role in the global context by examining the historical and cultural significance of these toponyms.
Through comparative analysis, the study shows how these toponyms reflect the unique identities of their regions and contribute to global cultural exchange. The findings highlight the importance of preserving and promoting national place names in the face of globalisation, and the need to balance global influence with the preservation of local cultural heritage.
